Late evening and overnight are when teen drivers face the greatest fatal crash risk.<\/div>\r\n            <p>Both patterns matter. But national teen driver data shows that fatal risk becomes more concentrated later in the evening and overnight.<\/p>\r\n            <p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/cluballiance.aaa.com\/traffic-safety\/schools-open-drive-carefully\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color:var(--gold)\">AAA<\/a>, citing NHTSA crash data, more than one in four fatal teen driver crashes occur between 3 and 7 p.m.<\/p>\r\n            <p>That is an important safety finding because it overlaps with the Texas peak crash period. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/teen-drivers\/risk-factors\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color:var(--gold)\">CDC, Risk Factors for Teen Drivers<\/a>)<\/p>\r\n            <p>National Safety Council research also shows that young drivers&#39; fatal crash risk can exceed their share of driving exposure. Drivers ages 16 and 17 take approximately 10% of their trips between 9 p.m. and midnight, but account for 19% of their fatal crashes during that period.
