Methodology & sources.

Each intersection above is ranked by one number: the total reported crashes recorded there in 2025. The counts come from the Texas Department of Transportation’s Crash Records Information System (CRIS) public extract, covering crashes from January 1 through December 31, 2025 and flagged by TxDOT as occurring at an intersection. Where two intersections show the same total, the tie is broken by that same crash count; nothing else moves a location up or down the list.

This sits inside the statewide picture at the top of this page: Texas recorded 617,930 crashes in 2025, and roughly one in four happened at an intersection. The fifty crossings below are simply where that statewide total piled up the most in a single spot.

What the map doesn’t decide.

A dangerous intersection does not by itself decide who is at fault after a crash. J. Alexander Law looks at what actually happened at the moment of impact: which driver ran the light, missed a yield, followed too close, or otherwise broke a traffic rule. Texas follows modified comparative fault (Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 33.001), so your share of blame can reduce or bar what you recover, and a claim generally must be filed within two years of the crash (§ 16.003). This map is for general information only and is not legal advice; talk to a lawyer about the facts of your own crash.

Frequently asked questions.

I was hurt at one of these intersections. What should I do?

Get medical care first, then get the police crash report and photos of the scene before you talk to any insurance adjuster. The crash count on this map only shows how often a location floods with wrecks; it does not establish fault in your case, so hold onto the evidence that does.

How were these intersections ranked?

By the total number of reported crashes TxDOT recorded there in 2025, drawn from the Crash Records Information System (CRIS) public extract. The higher the crash count, the higher the rank; ties are broken the same way.

Does a dangerous intersection mean the city or TxDOT is liable?

Not automatically. A high crash count can support a claim that a road or signal design was unsafe, but a claim against a governmental entity carries its own rules and notice deadlines, separate from a claim against another driver. Most crashes at these intersections still come down to which driver broke a traffic rule.

How long do I have to file a claim in Texas?

In most cases, two years from the date of the crash, under Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 16.003. Waiting can cost you the right to recover at all, so talk to a lawyer well before that date.
