Texas gives you two years from the date of the wreck to file suit; that is the statute of limitations. The filing clock is not the only one ticking, though. These are not abstract numbers. TxDOT’s 2024 crash facts count 585 riders killed and more than 2,500 seriously injured across Texas, and 37% of the riders who died were not wearing a helmet. Bexar County sits near the top of that ledger.
TxDOT crash records put Bexar County second in Texas for motorcycle crashes, with more than 700 wrecks and 29 riders killed in 2025, and San Antonio second among Texas cities. More than a third of the state’s fatal motorcycle crashes happen at intersections; the left turns and failure-to-yield collisions described above. The most seriously hurt riders in this region are treated at University Hospital, the area’s civilian Level I trauma center near our Northwest Side office.
