After The Police Leave, The Questions Usually Start

The officer gives you a report number. The tow truck takes the car. The other driver gives you an insurance card. Then you get home and realize you still do not know what the report says, whether the car is repairable, who will call first, or why your neck and back feel worse than they did at the scene.

What McKinney drivers are left with What the firm helps organize
A report number but no clear answer about fault The officer’s narrative, contributing factors, photographs, available video, and the full collision sequence
A damaged vehicle, a tow yard, or a rental problem Vehicle photos, repair estimates, total loss questions, and communication with the insurer about the car
Symptoms that became more noticeable later or worsened overnight Medical records from the first complaint through imaging, therapy, follow up care, and daily limitations
An insurer asking for details before the full picture is clear The crash facts, available policies, communications, and the claim record
Work missed while appointments, repairs, and bills pile up Records of missed work, treatment, limitations, and how the crash changed normal life

Your McKinney Crash Report Is Where The Claim Begins

What can a Texas crash report tell you after a McKinney accident?

A crash report can identify the drivers, vehicles, witnesses, officer observations, roadway location, contributing factors, and initial narrative. It may not contain every witness, video source, vehicle record, medical detail, or insurance policy that matters to the claim.

The firm’s own pull of TxDOT CRIS records counted 7,765 reportable crashes in McKinney from 2021 through 2025, and those reports listed 21,119 people. The most common injury entry was not a visible injury: officers coded 2,263 people as C, possible injury, the code for pain or another injury that is reported but not visible at the scene. That was about half of the 4,511 injury entries.

  • All 7,765 crashes were recorded in Collin County.
  • In 236 McKinney crashes, at least one person died or was coded with a suspected serious injury. Those crashes included 34 deaths and 230 people with suspected serious injuries.
  • 305 crashes involved a commercial motor vehicle, where an employer or company policy may become part of the claim.

Questions the report can raise

  • Did the officer list a contributing factor?
  • Is the other driver’s insurance information current?
  • Does a work vehicle, company truck, or employer policy matter?
  • Is there dashcam, business, or nearby camera footage?
  • What happens if pain gets worse after the report is written?
  • What should happen with the vehicle while the injury claim is still developing?

Need help understanding the report? Each CR-3 code, including the injury letters, is spelled out in the Texas Crash Report Decoder.

Method: the firm queried TxDOT’s Crash Records Information System on September 30, 2026 for reportable crashes dated 2021 through 2025 whose report lists McKinney as the city. Each person’s injury code is the officer’s entry on the report (fatal is K, suspected serious A, suspected minor B, possible C, not injured N), so the 21,119 people and the 2,263 possible injury entries count people, not crashes. A serious crash has at least one K or A entry. These figures describe reported crashes, not causes.

How We Turn The Records Into A McKinney Car Accident Claim

  • Two J. Alexander Law Firm attorneys reviewing paperwork together at a conference table, one taking notes on a legal pad

Read the report with the rest of the evidence

The report is checked against photos, vehicle damage, the roadway layout, witness information, available video, and what each driver said.

  • An attorney reviewing and signing paperwork at his desk in the firm's office, with sunlight through the window blinds

    Keep the treatment timeline complete

The claim should show when symptoms began, what treatment was needed, how recovery progressed, and what the injury changed in everyday life.

Separate the vehicle claim from the injury claim

Repair, total loss, and rental issues matter, but they run separately from the injury claim. We can help with vehicle questions along the way, and no percentage of the repair or rental payments goes to the firm.

Review the policies before accepting the insurer’s limit

Coverage may reach past the at fault driver’s policy to the vehicle’s owner, an employer or commercial carrier, a household policy, or your own UM/UIM coverage.
